A person that does

The fallacy of doing all stems at the premise of person hood.

We live in a society that values action above all else.

We often say that lady luck favours the one who tries.

but who is the one who tries?

A person is the only thing that can “do” things.

but are you a person?

Consider the exploration into the following:

If you are a person, where is this person?

  • Is it in the body? If so, where?
  • Is it in the brain? If so, where?
  • Remember that if we are a “person” there should be a location where it lives right?

I am afraid if you honestly underwent this short investigation, there are no answers to this question. There is a lack of thought that can find this sense of a person.

All we can say for sure is that we are aware of what is going on at this moment.

Memory

This sense of person hood lives in memory. The person you assume yourself to be lives in memory which is in the past. At this moment, we are not bound to our memories just like how we are not bound to our thoughts.

If we go all the way back, at some point the thought of “I as a person” entered into our “minds” and settled there. Then the next day, there was no event that would be in direct opposition to this so it continued to live. It was actually encouraged. People around us also experienced this same sense of person hood and as such we all let it remain and together we grew into suggestible members of a society.

However, when we look in this very moment and when we ask those questions. This sense of person hood disappears and all that remains is

PRESENCE.

This is what we truly are, we are not a person that lives in the brain, we are presence.

What does this have to do with doing?

Society is built on the continuous action of the individual to ensure that all parts are moving smoothly. It is an expectation that we are always moving and striving for the best but why are we doing this in the first place?

Happiness?

Peace?

Status?

When we distill the reasons why we strive it is so we can achieve a state of impersonal person hood where there is only happiness and peace. Whenever we reach our desires, this state is unknowingly achieved and there is a temporary respite of being a person that has to do x, y, z things. However, since the understanding is not there, we fall right back into the memory of being person and thrown back into the ocean of ignorance.

If you want to be happy, you have to cease being a person. You cannot be both a person and happy. It is up to you to choose whether or not you would like to be a person or be happy.

It all starts with looking at the bread crumbs and not ignoring them. If life continues to disappoint with all the striving, all the action for the temporary respite of peace then it may be time to begin to listen. Its to see through experience that we are living through memory, and its through this clarity and understanding that we reach a place where this memory is made null and void.

True action

The actions that are meaningful come from silence itself, it comes from the absence of a person. Being a x, y, x person from w is the block to our realization of this. When we view a masterpiece of art we resign being a person for that moment and we fall into this silence. We can do this at all times during the day.

The actions that mean the most come from the place of happiness, the realization that whatever happens in life, its no big deal because we are already happy. The flow of life may go as it pleases but we are merely witness to it, and happy to just be included.

Whatever needs to be done will be done, but it will be done without a person. Day to day life becomes easy, there is no one to compete with and no one to be afraid of. Relationships lose their tension and rigidity as you become witness to them, they are allowed to evolve in your openness.

However this is all intellectual unless steps are taken to make it real.

Take the time to really feel these points as true or false, then make a judgment but then again, who is there to judge?
